About Ellen
Ellen Clifford, an Avalon founder, stepped down from her role as Assistant Head of School for Advancement in July, but will continue her work part-time as Associate Director of Advancement. She will remain coordinator of the Autumn Auction and the Spring Gala, and resume her role as an editor of the Avalon and Brookewood magazines.
A development professional for 25 years in independent schools including Harbor School, Bullis, and The Heights School, Ellen also served for 12 years as a senior writer and editor at the U.S. Agency for International Development, and as a production associate and publicist for the Washington Bureau of ABC News, on Capitol Hill in both the U. S. House and Senate, and as special assistant to the co-chairman of the Republican National Committee. Her work in education includes six years as an independent school trustee and board chairman.
The mother of two grown daughters (her youngest married a former Avalon teacher in 2011), Ellen lives in N. Bethesda, MD.
